We’ve all dealt with it at one point or another – we sit down after a long day, ready to relax and catch up on our favourite episodes only to find our internet is lagging and buffering and you just can’t seem to figure out why. Sure, internet speeds vary, for a variety of reasons, but if you don’t really know why there isn’t anything you can do to fix the problem. In an attempt to remedy this issue, Netflix has introduced Fast.com.
What is Fast.com? It is a simple-to-use website (really just one page plus FAQs) that helps you see how fast your internet connection is, whether on mobile or broadband, by checking the download speeds you’re getting from your Internet service provider. To do this, Fast.com performs a series of downloads from Netflix servers to provide you with an estimate.
This is what it looks like:
What if the results are not what you hoped for? If your estimate shows that you are getting less speed than you are paying for, you can ask your internet service provider about the results – this way you have some back up, rather than just calling to say “my internet is slow.”
